Open-World Object Detection

An approach that aims for a model not only to detect known objects but also to handle unknown ones as a separate category.

Open-world object detection is an important step in moving from closed benchmark categories to real-world perception. Instead of forcing unseen objects into known categories, the system can flag them as potentially novel. This provides critical reliability benefits for robotics, autonomous systems, and security environments.
