Accessibility Statement
Our WCAG 2.1 AA compliance commitment and accessibility features
As Şükrü Yusuf KAYA, we commit to making the sukruyusufkaya.com website accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. This Accessibility Statement explains the accessibility status of our site, the standards we apply, known limitations, and our feedback channels.
1. Our Accessibility Commitment
Digital accessibility is a fundamental right. We adopt Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards; we strive to keep the site accessible at every stage of design, development, content production, and continuous improvement. Our goal is for everyone using assistive technology, especially users with visual, hearing, motor, and cognitive impairments, to be able to access our content independently.
2. Conformance Status
The site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. 'Partially conformant' means we meet most of the standard but some content or components are not fully compliant. Missing areas are listed in section 5. EU EN 301 549, US Section 508 (Rehabilitation Act), and the Türkiye Accessibility Strategy Document are referenced.
3. Accessibility Features We Implement
Semantic HTML: All pages are structured with meaningful HTML5 elements (header, nav, main, article, section, footer). Proper heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3) makes content navigation easier for screen readers.
Keyboard Access: All interactive elements (links, buttons, forms, menus, modals) can be used with the keyboard only (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Escape, arrow keys). There are no keyboard traps. Visible focus indicators are present on all interactive elements.
Screen Reader Support: ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes are added to complex components (mega menu, modal dialog, tab, accordion, tooltip). Labels, aria-describedby, aria-invalid in form fields; aria-live and aria-busy in dynamic content.
Visual and Color: Text/background contrast ratio meets WCAG AA level target of 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text). Information is not conveyed solely through color (icon + text combination). Dark mode is the default; light mode option is continuously being improved as planned.
Image Alternative Text: All meaningful images have descriptive alt text; decorative images use empty alt text. Diagrams (Mermaid diagram) have a summary description below them.
Form Accessibility: Each form field has a visible label, error messages have aria-describedby linked help text. Autocomplete is structurally applied correctly.
Video and Audio: Subtitles and transcripts are attempted to be provided for videos we publish (YouTube embed); all new video content is published with this standard. Past content is being updated progressively.
Skip-to-content: A 'Skip to content' link at the top of the page becomes visible when tabbed for keyboard users.
Language Marking: HTML lang attribute (tr or en) is specified on every page. In-page quotations in different languages carry the appropriate lang attribute.
Responsive and Zoom: The site can be used at up to 400% zoom without content loss or horizontal scrolling. Accessible at all viewport sizes, mobile and desktop.
Motion and Animation: prefers-reduced-motion media query is supported; animations are limited if the user has selected 'reduce motion' in system settings.
4. Browser and Assistive Technology Support
The site is tested with the following browser and assistive technology combinations:
- Google Chrome (last 2 major versions) + NVDA
- Mozilla Firefox (last 2 major versions) + NVDA
- Microsoft Edge (last 2 major versions) + JAWS
- Apple Safari (last 2 major versions) + VoiceOver (macOS / iOS)
- Google Chrome Mobile (Android) + TalkBack
It is expected to continue working in other browser/assistive technology combinations, but they have not been officially tested.
5. Known Limitations
Areas in a continuous improvement cycle, not yet fully WCAG AA compliant:
- Legacy video content: Some video content published before 2024 may be missing subtitles or transcripts; all new content is published with subtitles.
- Third-party embedded content: Accessibility of embedded iframes such as YouTube, CodeSandbox depends on the respective provider.
- Complex data visualizations: Some interactive charts and recharts components are supported with table alternatives; fully accessible alternative views are being developed.
- Mathematical notation: KaTeX rendered formulas; screen reader support is increasing via MathML.
- Auto-generated PDFs: Certificate and report PDFs have not yet reached the fully tagged (PDF/UA) standard.
We keep these limitations among development priorities and prioritize them with real user feedback.
