Keypoint Detection

An operation that finds distinctive and repeatable local points in an image to support matching and alignment tasks.

Keypoint detection plays a central role in image matching, camera pose estimation, augmented reality, and 3D reconstruction. The goal is to identify stable points that can be rediscovered despite image transformations. These points are then paired with descriptors for comparison. It is one of the concepts that strongly bridges classical vision and learning-based systems.
