Data Source

The system, platform, or operational touchpoint where data is generated, stored, or retrieved.

A data source defines the origin of a dataset and is critical for understanding the context of the data. CRM systems, ERP platforms, IoT devices, application logs, surveys, and third-party providers are examples of data sources. Without understanding the source’s reliability, freshness, scope, and measurement logic, data quality cannot be assessed properly. For that reason, source information is essential not only for technical integration, but also for correct interpretation of the data.
