t-Distribution

A continuous distribution used especially to model uncertainty around the mean in small samples.

The t-distribution plays a critical role especially when sample size is small and the population variance is unknown. It looks similar to the normal distribution, but has heavier tails, which reflect greater uncertainty. It is widely used in hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and small-sample statistics. When trying to make reliable inference from limited data, the t-distribution often provides the most appropriate theoretical framework. For that reason, it is one of the most practical distributions in classical statistics.
