Staging Area

An intermediate preparation layer where source data is temporarily held before final transformation.

A staging area is the safe landing zone where raw data first arrives in data integration architectures. It is used to validate, reformat, compare, and prepare incoming source data for controlled transformations. The staging layer creates a traceable and recoverable intermediate step between source systems and target models. In large enterprise flows, it plays a critical role in error handling and data reprocessing.
