Orphaned Asset Detection
A lineage-based control process for identifying data assets that no longer have meaningful upstream or downstream connections.
Orphaned asset detection is important for preventing the accumulation of unnecessary tables, views, features, or intermediate outputs in data platforms. Through lineage data, assets that are no longer used or connected to any active flow can be identified. This visibility reduces storage cost, maintenance burden, and governance complexity. Orphaned asset detection is one of the hygiene-control mechanisms of data architecture.
