Metadata Management

The systematic management of descriptions, sources, usage, and technical structure information about data.

Metadata management makes visible what data assets are, where they come from, how they are used, and what technical structure they have. Field definitions, data types, ownership information, source systems, refresh frequency, and quality notes all fall within this scope. Without metadata, data discoverability declines, misuse increases, and analytical teams begin interpreting the same concept differently. For that reason, metadata management is one of the most critical operational layers of data governance.
