Metadata Versioning

An approach that stores changes in metadata definitions as traceable versions over time.

Metadata versioning is critical for understanding how data definitions and schema information evolve over time. When a field’s description, type, ownership, or usage rule changes, that evolution should not be lost. This approach is especially useful for auditability, rollback, and historical interpretation. Metadata, like data itself, is a living asset that should be versioned.
