Business Metadata

The metadata layer that explains the business meaning, usage purpose, and enterprise definitions of data assets.

Business metadata describes the business meaning of data rather than its purely technical structure. It explains what a field represents in the business domain, which KPI it relates to, and how different teams should interpret it. Data that is technically correct but semantically unclear cannot generate real decision-support value. For that reason, business metadata is critical for data literacy and enterprise metric consistency.
