Anonymization

The process of transforming personal data so that it can no longer be linked back to a specific individual.

Anonymization is one of the strongest protection approaches in data privacy. The goal is to preserve as much utility as possible while preventing individuals from being re-identified. However, this process is not merely about removing names; indirect identifiers, combined fields, and linkage risks must also be considered. Truly anonymized data is data that cannot reasonably be linked back to a person using practical means. For that reason, anonymization is an advanced process that must be designed carefully from both technical and legal perspectives.
