Stance Detection

A task focused on identifying a text’s stance toward a given claim, topic, or target.

Stance detection differs from standard sentiment analysis because it explicitly considers the target of the opinion. A text may have an overall positive tone while still expressing a negative stance toward a specific policy, product, or claim. It is a powerful tool for media analysis, public-opinion research, and social-media monitoring.
