Metadata

The body of descriptive, source, usage, and technical information that exists about data.

Metadata makes a data asset visible not just as content, but also in terms of meaning and context. Field descriptions, data types, source systems, refresh frequency, ownership, and usage purpose all fall into this category. Without metadata, data becomes harder to find, understand, and use correctly. In modern data platforms, metadata serves as the essential bridge between data discovery and governance.
