Cell State

A memory pathway in LSTM architectures that carries long-term information more directly.

The cell state is the core memory mechanism that distinguishes LSTM from standard RNNs. It is updated in a controlled way through gates and helps preserve important information over longer spans. This structure increases training stability, especially in long sequences. Much of LSTM’s strength in modeling long-term dependencies comes from this component.
